What are cloth diapers, and how do they work?
Cloth diapers are reusable baby diapers made from natural or synthetic fibers. They are designed to absorb moisture and can be washed and reused multiple times, making them an eco-friendly alternative to disposable diapers. They typically consist of an absorbent insert and a waterproof outer layer.
How long will I be able to use these diapers?
Doopsis cloth diapers come in 2 sizes: newborn and 5-15kg. Cloth diaper size is adjustable meaning you can use the same diaper from birth to potty.
With proper care, these diapers will be able to be used by several children.
How many diapers do I need?
It depends on how you plan to use them. Many parents use cloth diapers, for example, only when they are at home. It also depends on how often you plan to wash them.
We are strong believers that it is enough with 1 diaper to understand if you like them or not. But here are some numbers:
- We recommend 8 cloth diapers for parents who will use them with disposable diapers;
- 16 cloth diapers for those who will use cloth diapers full time and wash daily.
- 24 diapers: the number seasoned-cloth diaper parents say is enough.
Why choose cloth diapers?
Up to 3,000 disposable diapers are used in a child's first year. It is a huge burden on the environment (because they do not decompose in nature) and on your wallet (that is around 800-1000 EUR). Also, cloth diapers are more breathable, which is much better for your baby's sensitive skin. Save yourself the worry of rashes.
What are cloth diapers made of?
What size do I need?
Doopsis cloth diapers come in 2 sizes: newborn and 5-15kg. You have to use snaps to adjust the size of the diaper!
Will the diapers leak?
Yes! But disposable diapers also tend to leak. You can prevent leaks by fine-tuning how tightly you snap the diaper. Leaks most often come from the leg holes, so they should be tight. The diapers themselves are made of moisture-proof fabric and have comfortable elastics to keep what needs to stay inside.
It is very important to note that leaks can also occur from improper care of diapers! Leaks can occur from detergent and fabric softener (do not use fabric softener when washing cloth diapers!) residues that have blocked the pores of the fabric. If you suspect that the absorbency of cloth diapers has been affected by deposits of detergents, we recommend washing the diapers and inserts a couple of times without detergents, only in warm water!
How many inserts should be put in one diaper?
One diaper can hold 1 or 2 inserts depending on absorbency needs. If you put more than 2 inserts, there is a risk that the baby will not be comfortable and compression leaks will occur.
How many inserts should I buy?
We recommend buying inserts as many as diapers! If you are using cloth diapers for the first time, we also recommend that you try different material inserts, because each of us (including babies) is so different! Someone needs the insert to be able to absorb moisture very quickly (microfiber inserts will be more useful here), while for someone else it is essential that the inserts contain a large amount of moisture (natural fiber inserts, such as bamboo and hemp, will be the best here).
How to wash diapers and inserts?
Both diapers and inserts can be washed in a washing machine at 40C using washing powder.
IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to use fabric softener, as it changes the absorbent properties of the inserts.
What to do if pre-loved diapers are bought and they... don't work well?
How to "revive" improperly washed diapers and inserts?
Cloth diapers can be restored using washing soda (sodium carbonate). It is necessary to do this if deposits of minerals and detergents have formed in them due to improper care.
